My Review

I love foxes and I want others to love them too. They are not the villains that people believe they are. They are simply trying to survive in an ever more hostile environment. We no longer hunt them for sport, but they need to find food, which could mean going through your bins.

I live in an urban area. A few months ago we had a family of five foxes living behind a garage across the road. Eventually, mum, dad and two of the cubs moved away, and just one of the cubs remained to claim it as his or her territory. Eventually a new family will appear and the whole cycle will start again.

Foxes are different from other furry animals like wolves, cayotes and red pandas, but they have similarities with cats and dogs. A fox uses its tail for balance like a cat, and uses its ears and nose like a dog. It has whiskers and eyes that see well at night like a cat, and claws that help it to climb. But there is a big difference – foxes are WILD. So where can we see them? They are easier to spot in urban areas than they are in the countryside these days.

Let’s Explore Foxes is a brilliant book with lovely illustrations. But more than that, it’s full of information about foxes for budding naturalists, and why we love them and need them. I’m a huge fan – my dog not so much – and I love seeing them when we go out for a walk in the evening.

Many thanks to @lovebookstours for inviting me to be part of the #LetsExploreFoxes book tour.
